Dark red cloth hc with no titling, 8vo (20 cm), plain endpapers. Contains all 16 color plates and 32 half-tone cuts (not in order), two maps (the World in 1801 and in 1901), lists of illustrations for all three volumes, a sampling of text (year 1900) pp 1877-1912, and the index pp 1913-1924. In addition to major battles and events (Gettysburg, the Monitor and the Merrimac, Mobile Bay), includes a painting of the first steam railway with carriages instead of cars, American inventors (including Colt), and reading the Emancipation Proclamation. Good/no DJ: bumped and scuffed with spine worn, cracked behind title page and in middle, sticker or ad residue on versos of plates Battle of Tugela and Battle of Manila, small sticking damage on Entry of Allies into Peking (about 1/4-inch loss), light foxing/tanning, no markings.
