Rossiter Johnson, Campfire and Battlefield: History of the Conflicts and Campaigns of the Great Civil War in the United States, New York, Knight & Brown, undated with 1896 copyrights (published after Matthew Brady's death in Jan. 1896). Red leather hc with blind-stamped designs on covers and gilt soldier with lettering on front, folio (33 cm), green floral endpapers, bw Lincoln photograph and color Grant painting frontispieces, 560 pp with index [2, ads], 7 color plates. Account of the American Civil War with text, songs, and including a chapter on women's contributions. Illustrations and photographs, which drew heavily from Matthew Brady's photographs then in possession of the government. Fair: covers detached and spine leather missing, pages loose but all present, up to 2-inch tears with no loss except minor on p. 513 (through picture and text on pp 260, 479), po bookplate on front pastedown, no other markings.
