This copy belonged to Algie I. Newlin, Quaker historian and Guilford College professor. Nicely rebound in original colors with most of original spine laid on. Dark blue and brown cloth with gilt lines, super 8vo (24 cm), top edge gilt, xx, 478 uneven-cut pp with bibliography, index and errata page, 25 illustrated plates including frontispiece, bw sketches, 2 statistical charts pasted in. Good+/no DJ: covers rubbed with boards showing on edge, front endpapers loose, po names on new and old ffeps, some underlining and markings, small tear p. 139 with no loss. Scrap rebinding receipt taped to dedication page, tape on about 2 pages, not an ex-lib.
